  • “Living next to this garage means putting up with the thrumming of the compressors.”

Around 1915, the Central garage opens its doors on the avenue at the corner of Drolet, taking advantage of the rise of the technological marvel of the day: the automobile! Ten years later, it has doubled in size, with a façade on Saint-Denis Street.

Following the Second World War, the need for skilled workers in the automotive industry continues to grow. So the government invests in technical and vocational education. From 1949 to 1980, the Motorized Equipment Trade School occupies the Central garage site. The building takes on its current appearance in 1955. This is when the architects design a cutting edge teaching garage. We can admire the mosaic on Saint-Denis Street, which calls to mind the cogs and wheels of an automobile.
